Richard Belzer, 'Law & Order: SVU' Star and Adored Comedian, Has Died at the Age of 78.

Law & Order: SVU star and acclaimed comedian Richard Belzer has died. Belzer died early Sunday at his home in Bozouls, southwest France, according to multiple reports. He was 78. The actor's cause of death is unknown at this time.Belzer first appeared as the beloved Detective John Munch on Homicide: Life on the Streets in 1993 before moving on to Law & Order: SVU, where he is perhaps best known. Belzer played Munch on the popular show until 2013. Belzer also appeared on the original Law & Order as well as Trial by Jury, and he played the role for a total of 23 years across 12 different TV shows, including The X-Files, The Beat, The Wire, Arrested Development, 30 Rock, and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. In 2016, he appeared as John Munch in a guest appearance on Law & Order: SVU.
