Alec Baldwin reduced in manslaughter charge

Actor Alec Baldwin has been charged with the murder of cameraman Galina Hutchins on the set of Rust. This is reported by The New York Times.The New Mexico State Attorney's Office removed the aggravating circumstance clause of the use of firearms from the final decision. Now the actor faces up to a year and a half in prison, and earlier could face up to five years.

The prosecutor's office said they went for it to avoid further litigation with the actor. The prosecutor went to meet the actor's lawyers: they insisted that Baldwin was mistakenly attributed the use of firearms as an aggravating circumstance, since such a law was passed in the state a few months after the death of Galina Hutchins.

Another person involved in the Hutchins murder case, weapons consultant Hannah Gutierrez-Reid, was also mitigated.

The incident happened in October 2021. During filming, the actor fired a gun, killing cameraman Galina Hutchins and injuring film director Joel Sousa. The gun used as a prop turned out to be loaded with live ammunition. Baldwin stated that he did not pull the trigger, but forensics concluded that the weapon could not fire on its own.
